Viola Concerto
For viola and orchestra
Since I envisioned this concerto to be approximately fifteen minutes long, I was naturally drawn to the immensely successful Italian Baroque concerto grosso. By employing the traditional three-movement fast-slow-fast format mastered by Vivaldi, I pay homage to the composers who have profoundly influenced my musical journey. In line with my constant aim to bridge the gap between multiple genres of music, I aspire to bring a fresh perspective to the fascinating world of the viola.
One of my main goals in writing this concerto was to unleash a relentless, high-octane energy within the instrument. While acknowledging and utilizing its darker, richer tones, I also actively pursued the viola's agility and aggressive qualities to reflect the turbulent times of 2024.
