For solo Clarinet and Wind Ensemble
Written for Aileen Razey, Obsidian makes the clarinet shine through technically demanding gestures and long sonorous lines, juxtaposed against the ensemble’s fun and groovy beats. The slow introductory part depicts the clarinet clawing its way up towards the skies, while the ensemble slowly brews itself to a powerful uproar. The fast section is a homage to my youthful late nights at the nightclub with four-on-the-floor bass drum hits, and fast, jittery, and groovy lines in the clarinet. Written for intermediate-level wind ensemble.
