Disappearing Rivers

$15.00

For string quartet (2 violin, viola, cello)

The world's rivers are drying up at unprecedented rates, driven largely by human-induced climate change. The Colorado River has been grappling with a drought lasting over two decades, even as the population and agricultural demands in the southwestern United States continue to grow—both of which place immense strain on its already limited water resources. In 2023, over half of all river watersheds faced abnormal conditions, with the majority experiencing water deficits. Severe drought and relentless heat waves are causing rivers across the US, Europe, Asia, and the Middle East to dry up. Many are shrinking in both length and width, with exposed patches of riverbed becoming a common sight. In some cases, rivers have dried out so extensively that they are nearly impossible to navigate. This work highlights the critical state of our freshwater resources, urging immediate action to protect and sustainably manage them to avoid profound and far-reaching consequences.
